Can’t believe it’s already the second day of the year. I’ve been thinking about how I want the next 12 months to turn out, sewing-wise. Last year I made a lot of garments, but I feel like I could have made more, and challenged myself more in terms of skills, depth and overall enjoyment of the process. I also feel that I did not use my time well and had a lot more garments in my sewing ability. But, I traveled a lot for work and juggled with trying to be regular in the gym, mindful of eating well and enjoy time with family. Hobbies took a backseat. Now.. my sewing itch needs some scratching and I want to be back at the machine for days at end.

Here’s what I hope to achieve in 2025!

Create Basics: I would like to create some basics this year. Usually, I tend to sew items that have a lot of bells and whistles like lining, button plackets, invisible zippers, elastic casing etc. I think it would be good to get some quick wins with basics like tank tops, skirts, pyjama bottoms etc. It will also help me to not get overwhelmed so quickly with projects

Slow down the process: I want to spend the year really honing the craft by slowing down my expectations. Focus on getting the fit right, learn a new skill or two and enjoy the process rather than focus on the outcome.

Sew items that are not garments : After the rag doll project, I’ve been quite enamoured by all the beautiful stuffed animals that I’ve seen people sew. Maybe I will try my hands at a few of those.

Try Embroidery : Just because it looks so pretty!!

Finish projects before trying a new one : Doesn’t need any more explanation. I just want to calm down on the overwhelm.
